As a boy, a great future president, Abraham Lincoln, looked up to the achievements of George Washington. One of Lincoln's favorite books was a biography of Washington. The book referred to the first President: "Washington [a]s the mightiest name on earth...To add brightness to the sun or glory to the name of Washington is alike impossible."

For this activity, you will be reading a little more on the various monuments and memorials that were made in honor of our first president. Then, you will be given the role of an artist who has been commissioned to create a statue of Washington here in Sheboygan County.
1) Follow the links below to look at different monuments that have been erected in honor of George Washington. Take careful note at why they were built and what emotions are meant to be conveyed in each example.
2) After you look at the sites, grab a memorial worksheet from the front table. You are to answer the questions and complete the activity.
